Biometric Health Screenings for Employees

Total Cholesterol, HDL, TC/HDL Ratio, LDL, Triglycerides, Glucose, Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index (Height & Weight), and Body Composition (Waist Circumference) make up the core screening services and starting point for your employees wellness journey.

These screenings assess your members’ risk for developing Metabolic Syndrome which is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, low HDL, and high triglyceride levels.

Using the fingerstick method of collection, MSU team members will identify your employees unique screening results in minutes. Allowing your employees to receive their results in real-time, in a 1:1 setting.

Cholesterol and Glucose Fingerstick Health Screenings

Total cholesterol measures all types of cholesterol in the blood, including low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (often referred to as “bad” cholesterol), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (often referred to as “good” cholesterol), and triglycerides. Elevated levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as low levels of HDL cholesterol, are associated with an increased risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions.

Glucose measures the amount of sugar (specifically, glucose) present in the blood. Glucose serves as the primary source of energy for the body’s cells. Abnormal blood glucose levels can indicate various conditions, including diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance.

By conducting a fingerstick screening for total cholesterol and glucose, their healthcare professional can quickly obtain a snapshot of the individual’s cardiovascular health and blood sugar regulation. This information can be used to help identify potential risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, and other related conditions.

Blood Pressure Health Screenings

A blood pressure screening involves using a cuff and a pressure gauge to measure the force of blood against artery walls. The cuff is wrapped around the upper arm and inflated to temporarily stop blood flow.

As the pressure is released, healthcare professionals listen for the pulse and obtain two numbers: systolic pressure (when the heart contracts) and diastolic pressure (when the heart is at rest). This quick and non-invasive test helps assess cardiovascular health and identify high blood pressure, a significant risk factor for heart disease and other complications.

Body Mass Index & Body Composition Screenings

Body mass index (using height and weight measurements) and body composition (using waist circumference measurements) are used to assess an individual’s physical characteristics and overall body composition.

Height is measured using a stadiometer, weight is determined using a scale placed on a hard surface, and waist circumference is calculated by placing a flexible tape measure horizontally around the waist just above the hip bone or at the imbilibus (belly button) and measuring on the exhale.

1:1 Results Distribution

The results of the biometric screenings are given to the participant immediately at the end of their screening appointment.  They will receive a form listing their results compared to normal ranges, with a brief verbal explanation of the specific tests. The screenings serve as a catalyst for employees to monitor their health care progress with encouragement to follow up with their primary care physician for further detailed counseling and/or recommendations based on their unique risk factors.

Flexible Biometric Screening Delivery

If you are managing a hybrid or fully remote team, MSU provides options for biometric screenings. You can choose from any combination of the following depending on your unique needs.

Scheduling Made Simple

Keep it simple when you’re scheduling your biometric screening event using the EMA, your event management assistant. You’ll have one central location for all your biometric screening event information.

Biometric Screening Event FAQs

We recommend 5-6 weeks advance notice to ensure a successful event.  This allows time for you to promote the event internally to get the highest registration.  It also allows MSU ample time to secure staff and ensure the team has the supplies they need.

Yes. We need at least 10 participants for onsite events. The event minimum guarantee is agreed upon during the implementation call, which is based on past and potential participation. Groups have up until one week before their scheduled event to make any changes (increase/decrease expected participation) without incurring fees.

Each screening appointment takes approximately 12-15 minutes from start to finish depending on the screening services provided, which includes 1:1 result distribution.

Yes, we can set up your dedicated online registration page so employees can select an appointment time for your group’s onsite biometrics event or choose to reserve a home/office test kit register to be delivered to their preferred location and to be administered, by them, at their leisure.

Our screeners are either licensed health care professionals in the state of Florida, or business professionals supporting onsite efforts.  This includes EMTs, Firefighters, Paramedics, PAs, LPNs, RNs, CNAs, MAs, and RDs.

Health screening results are given only to the participant and will not be distributed to you as the employer without written consent from the participant in advance.  After the event, MSU maintains the screening results for up to 7 years in compliance with HIPAA.  You may elect to have MSU upload the screening results directly to your medical insurance carrier with express written consent from the participant.

MSU personnel are trained to respond immediately in the event of an emergency.  Your MSU team lead will contact emergency personnel ASAP and will complete a medical referral outlining the details of the emergency recommendations and all steps taken with the participant.
